Servin’ it Up Local

Hello again!

Whether or not you’ve had a chance to stop by our ice cream and coffee shop in the heart of Dorchester, we’d like to tell you a bit about the delicious ice cream, specialty coffee, and tasty bakery items we’re serving up. One of our main focuses from the beginning has been sourcing everything — from our products to our staff — locally. Scroll down to learn some more, and we hope to see you again soon (or meet you for the very first time)!

All of our staff at Chill On Park is local! We hire individuals who live in Boston’s neighborhoods to support our local economy. We appreciate and utilize our hiring-partnerships with the Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester and the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute.

Kevin is our weekend manager. He recently passed the Servsafe exam!

All 32 flavors (ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbert, and sorbet) are made locally by Puritan Ice Cream, a family-owned business based nearby in Roslindale. They have been around, using the highest quality ingredients, since 1908… WOW! Cup, cone, sundae, smoothie, frappe? You choose how to enjoy your favorite flavors (and don’t miss the seasonal ones).

Perhaps a pie, ice cream roll, or cake? Bring the party home with homemade ice cream pies and cakes, also made with Puritan ice cream! Choose from Oreo, Strawberry Vanilla, and Mudd pies. Cakes can be made with chocolate or vanilla cake, and any ice cream flavor. Need one for a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or other celebration? We can write on them and customize with additional toppings for any occasion!

In addition to our wide selection of dry toppings, any concoction can be topped with hot fudge and caramel from Coop’s in Watertown! Not only are these sweet, rich jars of goodness sourced locally, but they’re free of GMO’s and corn syrup too. Both flavors have also received sofi™ awards from the Specialty Food Association!

Specialty coffee beans make up a perfect cup of medium or dark roast coffee — hot or iced! (You may also opt for a cappuccino, espresso, or latte). Ours are from Karma in Sudbury, where beans are roasted 3-6 times per week to ensure freshness. 2016 marks 17 years for them!

MEM Tea of Watertown has specialized in sourcing, blending, and distributing high-quality loose leaf teas since their founding in 1999. We love how they source artisanal, orthodox-processed, single-origin leaves, and freshly grind the spices that go into their award-winning chais. Come choose from a number of flavors, like English Breakfast, China Green Jade, Rooibos (decaf) and Mark’s Chai Spice. We serve it hot, iced, and latte-style!

When you need a little snack, pastries like muffins, cookies, and brownies from Roxbury’s own Haley House Cafe are available! But behind the delectable sweets in our glass case is a story — a story of hospitality, community, and inspiration. The Haley House Cafe started 10 years ago with the purpose to employ men who couldn’t find employment, and has expanded and changed considerably over time. Learn more about the organization in our Partner Spotlight blog post here.

Hearty soups hailing from Lynn, MA are also available! Homestyle Chicken Noodle, Hearty Country Vegetable, Broccoli Cheddar, New England Clam Chowder, and Italian Wedding are some of our favorites. These homemade soups are sure to keep you satisfied. We offer two selections each day — stop in or call to ask which ones we’re serving that day!

Oh, there’s one more thing we’d like to mention! Our Change for Charity program raises money for local organizations, nonprofit groups, and events by encourage patrons to donate their spare change in a jar at the register!
